Anxiety Cake

I’m anxious. I’m a pretty levelheaded person even if it takes me a minute, I can usually pinpoint the source of my anxiety and use different techniques to calm myself and I’m mostly successful in processing it. For the past few days, I find myself reaching deep into my arsenal of techniques to try to calm my anxiety. I’m not eating right (stress eating) and I’m not sleeping, sometimes not going to bed until 2 in the morning which makes for very long days. I can’t even settle myself enough to clean my house which is my greatest form of stress relief.

I have been keeping up to date with the media and have prepared appropriately for the current situation happening in the world and I take in information with a grain of salt. I am able to understand that the current crisis is manageable. By all standards I am safe, educated, and prepared. Still, this is anxiety is not settling. Now all I’m left with that same two questions all empaths should ask themselves: “Is this mine? and “What can I do?” I ask everyone to ask themselves these questions as well. When the world is shaken the feelings and emotions of all people are subject to being high-jacked by the emotions of the world and right now, the world is anxious. I am attempting to balance my own feelings with the overwhelming feelings of the world around me and it has me stuck. Now that I’ve realized that my anxiety is deeper, I must make different moves to process it.

My friends, now more than even, find a way to center yourself. All of us have been given the ingredients to bake an anxiety cake and to eat it too, but we don’t have to. Let’s instead use all those same ingredients and some other ingredients to change the recipe and bake a different cake. We can take personal responsibly to keep ourselves safe and our loved ones safe. When we work to follow the guidelines put into place by people deeper in than us, when we stay informed, and make smart and safe choices, we reduce the risks not only within our own families but also in society as a whole.

Today, with all of this processing that I’ve been doing I’m going to make small, manageable decisions to start changing the course of my anxiety. I have found what I believe is the root cause of my anxiety, so I am going to work, clean, and go for a walk outside (weather permitting). I will work to find a new normal. I am going to make sure I spend some quality time with my family. I am going to help calm those around me and I’m going to send as much positivity into the universe as one being can.

We are safe, we are okay, and we have a role to play in the overall outcome of this viral outbreak.

Presently processing, my anxiety and my role and I feel better already.
